We speculate that Sorento’s gas, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid models will remain, likely using the same powertrain as before. The Sorento will likely continue to be offered as a front-wheel drive SUV with all-wheel drive as an option, giving potential Telluride and Hyundai Palisade buyers more choices in the always competitive three-row mid-size market.

Kia is giving the 2024 Sorento a touch of a mid-cycle refresh that focuses mostly on looks. Full details haven’t been released yet, but photos of the updated, fourth-generation 2024 KIA Sorento have surfaced from the Korean market. We will update this space as we learn more. The new fascia and revised taillights are some of the most significant changes.

2024 KIA Sorento’s next generation was making the rounds of the Internet almost a week ago when a pre-production prototype was spotted somewhere in Russia, caught in camouflage only on the hood and rear bumper. So, Kia has been seen comparing the 2024 KIA Sorento to the latest BMW X5, which suggests the new vehicle will be more premium than its predecessor as well.

Additionally, a series of images from South Korea have revealed some of the car’s new interiors featuring a digital instrument cluster, A four-spoke steering wheel, and a large central infotainment screen, giving it an overall more premium and luxurious feel than today. the model too.

2024 KIA Sorento Review

The mid-size SUV looks a bit fresher than before and has a larger infotainment screen, but we expect the petrol, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid engines to stay unchanged.

Kia’s fourth-generation mid-size Sorento SUV still looks pretty fresh, but it’s time for a mid-cycle update. The refresh brings styling revisions to the front and rear, as well as interior upgrades featuring new screens. We predict this new 2024 KIA Sorento will arrive in the US for the 2024 model year.

At the front, the 2024 Sorento features a completely different grille shape and eye-catching new headlamps. The LED accent strip is reminiscent of the new Kia EV9 lighting feature. At the rear, the taillights were slightly revised, and added a new design element connecting the two light bars on each side. We also get to see a new wheel design and what appears to be a new beige finish, at least for the Korean market models that have been featured so far.

Inside, the biggest change is a new set of displays for the digital gauge cluster and central infotainment system. The center screen appears to be running Kia’s newer infotainment software, and the digital gauge cluster is noticeably larger than units currently available on Sorento’s higher trim levels. There’s also a touch bar at the bottom of the dash that looks similar to those on the Sportage and EV6 that can switch between HVAC and navigation controls.

We don’t expect major changes to the Sorento’s powertrain, which includes a 2.5-liter petrol engine in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms, a 227 hp hybrid setup, and a 261 hp plug-in-hybrid option with EPA. -Estimated electric range of 32 miles. The LX, EX, SX, and X Line trim levels should also be kept.

We are not sure about the launch time of the 2024 KIA Sorento, as it will most likely go on sale in Korea first and then reach the US market. Look for Kia to release US details on its newest model soon before it hits showrooms, possibly before the end of the year.

If you want a small SUV but sometimes need to carry six or more people, the 2024 KIA Sorento should be on your shortlist. The 2024 KIA Sorento is one of the few small SUVs on the market to offer third-row seating. Sitting between the smaller five-seater Sportage and the larger three-row Telluride, the 2024 KIA Sorento is an aptly sized option that can fit up to seven passengers in a pinch.

Like most other Kias, the 2024 KIA Sorento comes with an impressive complement of standard features, including wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, lane guard assistance (this helps keep the Sorento on track), and multiple USB charging ports. You might think having three rows means you have to sacrifice comfort in the second row, but Sorento’s center bench is surprisingly spacious. Even the rear seats are comfortable enough for adults, though getting back there can be a challenge.

Two conventional engine options are available at the 2024 KIA Sorento, including a basic four-cylinder and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder. The latter engine provides plenty of power and turns the 2024 KIA Sorento into one of the fastest SUVs in its class. In addition, Kia offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the Sorento (reviewed separately). The 2024 KIA Sorento interior is another high point it uses high-quality materials and can be upgraded to an almost luxurious level of comfort.

We don’t expect much change for the Kia Sorento 2023, but there are rumors that a new X-Pro trim level may be on its way. It will be a more legit off-road addition than the X-Line package that debuted last year, which is more of a cosmetic upgrade. The X-Pro first appeared on the Kia Sportage, and if that’s any indication, we expect the Sorento X-Pro to get all-terrain tires, suspension adjustments, certain off-road drive modes, and perhaps a heated windshield and LEDs. fog lamp. 2024 KIA Sorento


Here’s our first glimpse at the global 2024 Kia Sorento, the midsize three-row positioned above the Sportage and below the Telluride. It’s not vastly reworked like the upcoming Hyundai Santa Fe, but for a midcycle refresh of the fourth-generation 2024 KIA Sorento (that initially launched in 2020), it definitely distinguishes itself from the 2023 iteration, particularly via the restyled front and panoramic curved display inside.

Full details on the Sorento’s overhaul are forthcoming, but so far we dig its athletic demeanor and bold proportions. We recently spotted a pair of camo 2024 Kia Sorentos altitude testing in California alongside a duo of Hyundai Santa Fes.

From the front, the 2024 Sorento looks wholly different. It’s bolder and somewhat futuristic—in a good way. Vertical headlights (mated with slender running lights to form a “T”) replace traditional rectangular horizontal headlights sitting atop running lights. The Kia badge has been relocated from the center of the grille to the bottom of the hood. A thicker grille is completely separated from the headlights via body-color trim. The bumper is combined with the skid plate, and prominent vertical air intakes are positioned in line below the headlights. From the rear, expect slightly revised taillights.

The inside of the 2024 Kia Sorento receives some love as well, highlighted by a panoramic curved display that seamlessly connects, like a single screen, dual 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and infotainment system screens, reminiscent of other current Kias. The screens will support Kia’s next-generation infotainment system. Slender horizontal air vents are seamlessly integrated into the smooth dash, capped by updated vertically oriented units on the edges. Positioned above the center console is a switchable control system for operating the infotainment system and climate control system. The global Sorento has a fingerprint authentication system for starting the engine or releasing the valet mode.

The global 2024 KIA Sorento is available in five exterior colors (including Interstellar Grey, Cityscape Green and Volcanic Sand Brown) and three interior colors (including a new black/olive brown). Expect new wheel designs and interior schemes as well.

We expect the Sorento’s existing powertrains will carry over for the 2024 model year: 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbocharger four-cylinder, 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid (1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 66.9-kW electric motor).

2024 KIA Sorento Interior

The 2024 KIA Sorento has an attractive layout, nice materials, and solid build quality inside. The dashboard has been refreshed and is using Kia’s newer infotainment software. A larger digital gauge cluster sits behind the steering wheel and connects to an updated infotainment screen that’s likely bigger than the 12.3-inch unit found on the top trims of today’s Sorento. The design also incorporates ambient lighting and stitched surfaces on the door panels and seat inserts. A variety of cubby storage spots and cupholders also fill out the console.

Along with a standard third row, its second-row bench can be swapped for a pair of captain’s chairs. Compared with the larger Telluride, the Sorento’s far-back seats aren’t comfortable for adults, and we only managed to fit two carry-on suitcases in the cargo area—two fewer than the Telluride.

Contrary to its small SUV classification, the 2024 KIA Sorento offers ample space for adults in all three rows. You’ll even find more legroom in the second row than in dedicated two-row SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Taller adults will have plenty of space. Even the third row is hospitable for adults, though it’s a bit of a squeeze to get back there. Getting into the Sorento is otherwise an easy affair.

The 2024 KIA Sorento carries over many of Kia’s user-friendly attributes, and buyers new to the brand will have no problem getting a handle on the interior. Visibility is also quite good thanks to ample-size windows and good sight lines throughout the cabin. The optional surround-view camera system offers high-definition images and proves helpful in tight situations.

The 2024 KIA Sorento offers ample space for adults in all three rows. You’ll even find more legroom in the second row than in two-row dedicated SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Taller adults will have plenty of room. Even the third row is adult-friendly, although it’s a bit tricky to get back there. Getting into Sorento is an easy affair. The Sorento carries many of Kia’s user-friendly attributes, and buyers new to the brand will have no trouble getting a grip on the interior. Visibility is also quite good thanks to the fairly large windows and a good line of sight throughout the cabin.

The optional surround-view camera system offers high-definition images and has proven helpful in difficult situations. With the third-row seats on top, there are only 12.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which is equivalent to a row of about five grocery bags. Its closest competitor, the Volkswagen Tiguan, offers just 12 cubes, and the larger Subaru Ascent offers up to 17.8 cubes.

With the third row down, the 2024 KIA Sorento offers between 38.5 and 45 cubic feet, depending on how far you slide the second-row seats. That’s more than the roomy Toyota RAV4 (up to 37.6 cubic feet) and the larger Honda Passport (41.2 cubes). With all the seats down, the 2024 KIA Sorento accommodates 75.5 cubic feet, which is the equivalent of a Honda CR-V.

Interior storage is another strong suit of the 2024 KIA Sorento. While it doesn’t have the smarts of the Honda CR-V and Passport, there are plenty of well-thought-out storage options across all three rows. The towing capacity for the new generation 2024 KIA Sorento is pretty standard at 3,500 pounds (the capacity of the last generation reached 5,000 pounds). The 2024 KIA Sorento without a turbocharged engine can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

All three rows of seats provide better-than-expected comfort for a small SUV. The front seats on our top-of-the-line test vehicle offered heating, ventilation, and a good range of adjustment. The second-row captain’s chairs (a bench seat is standard on lower trim levels) were firm but more comfortable and supportive than bench seats found in other SUVs. The third-row seats are small and low to the floor but still offer enough support for adults. The dual-zone climate control is efficient and easy to use even if the touch-sensitive buttons aren’t as responsive as traditional buttons.

Ride comfort isn’t quite as impressive, and a steady stream of jitters heads into the cabin at lower speeds. The large 20-inch wheels of the 2024 KIA Sorento we tested may have been the culprit, and their low-profile tires caused elevated road noise at freeway speeds. On the highway, the Sorento’s ride is well-controlled, imparting confidence and a sense of stability.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The updated 2024 KIA Sorento will likely offer newer and larger touchscreens compared with the current model’s 8.0-inch or optional 10.3-inch screens. Other features are likely to carry over, such as the optional wireless charging pad 12-speaker Bose sound system, and rear-seat entertainment system.


Our top-of-the-line test vehicle came decked out with a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The graphics are crisp and creative, but we found some on-screen buttons a bit on the small side. The Bose audio system was slightly less impressive, and we never really found a sweet spot over a wide range of music. The merely average voice command system is the least impressive tech in the 2024 KIA Sorento. It lacks natural language recognition and flexibility.

With multiple USB ports as well as a wireless charger, passengers won’t lack power for their devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility is standard, though wireless connectivity is not offered with the larger screen. The 2024 KIA Sorento advanced driver aids are impressive not only in scope but also in application. We encountered no false alarms, and with the exception of an overly cautious rear cross-traffic warning system, we had no complaints.


With the third-row seats up, there are only 12.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which equates to a row of about five grocery bags. Still, for a smaller three-row SUV, this is decent. With the third row dropped, the 2024 KIA Sorento offers between 38.5 and 45 cubic feet, depending on how far forward you slide the second-row seats. That’s a bit more than what smaller two-row SUVs, such as the CR-V and RAV4 offer.

Interior storage is another 2024 KIA Sorento strong suit. There are ample, well-thought-out storage options in all three rows. The towing capacity for the Sorento with the turbocharged engine is a fairly standard 3,500 pounds.

The Kia Sorento’s standard 191-horsepower 4-cylinder engine gets the job done, but a majority of buyers go with the more satisfying 281-horsepower turbocharged unit. The enthusiast in us loves the quicker acceleration of the more powerful engine, and it has the practical perk of more towing capacity while returning almost the same fuel economy as the base engine. And while a full load of people and/or cargo can render the base engine a bit underpowered, the turbo remains relatively unphased. We’ve found the efficient and quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic transmission paired with the turbo engine isn’t as smooth and seamless as others, but not to a deal-breaking degree.

The smaller 2024 KIA Sorento is more nimble around town and in parking lots than most 3-row SUVs, which we count among its key advantages. It’s also about as comfortable on the highway as anything in the segment. For buyers who only occasionally load up more than five people and spend a lot of time navigating parking lots, the Sorento can be an easier way to move about the world.

We think the exterior styling of the 2024 KIA Sorento strikes a nice balance of rugged and modern. It’s boxy enough to look like an adventurous SUV but sleek enough to look refined and high-tech. Exciting turbo engine

The available turbocharged engine is the more popular choice for good reasons. It dramatically improves the performance of the 2024 KIA Sorento with only a minor fuel economy penalty.

X-Line package

The X-Line models in the 2024 KIA Sorento lineup add a rugged appearance package with an extra inch of ground clearance, high-utility roof rails, and unique wheels and bumpers. They all come standard with torque-vectoring all-wheel drive for added capability.

User-friendly infotainment system

All but the base trim of the 2024 KIA Sorento comes with a user-friendly and feature-rich infotainment system. It has a 10.25-inch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and SiriusXM, and it’s available with a Bose audio system.

Smart Power Tailgate

The EX trim and up have a handy Smart Power Tailgate, allowing hands-free opening and closing. This adds a lot of convenience to loading and unloading the cargo area.

2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid

The outstanding fuel economy rating is just the beginning of what we love about the Kia Sorento Hybrid. This smaller-than-most midsize SUV has an upscale 3-row interior with standard second-row captain’s chairs making it a good family SUV. Excellent safety ratings and the best warranty in its class further add to its credentials as a safe and practical SUV. However, the 2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid proves that a safe and efficient hybrid doesn’t have to be boring. Its 227-horsepower turbocharged hybrid powertrain makes it more responsive than you might expect.

The 2024 KIA Sorento is also available in non-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, the latter of which can drive up to 32 miles on electricity alone. Both are reviewed separately.

We expect the 2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid to start at about $37,000. For reference, the 2023 model starts at $36,690. The more premium SX Prestige trim should begin at about $43,000. The Sorento Hybrid historically only costs about $1,000 more than the regular Sorento in the same respective trim, and we expect that to continue being the case for 2024.

The 2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 227-horsepower 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid powertrain matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. This hybrid SUV strikes a nice balance of performance and efficiency. The Ford Explorer Hybrid can tow up to 5,000 pounds but has an unimpressive fuel economy. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is pretty efficient, but the performance isn’t as good as the non-hybrid. The Sorento Hybrid is the Goldilocks hybrid SUV that gets it just right.

We’re impressed with the lively acceleration of the 2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid. Compared to the non-hybrid Sorento, the hybrid is noticeably quicker than the base engine but less potent than the optional turbo engine. It’s a pleasant driver around town, and getting up to highway speeds doesn’t require much patience in our experience. Even passing on the highway isn’t much of a challenge. All the while, you’re getting up to 37 combined mpg.

The 2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid was so smooth and quiet in our testing that we almost forgot it was a hybrid. The suspension, steering, and braking are satisfactory in providing a comfortable driving experience. We also appreciate the traditional 6-speed automatic transmission with decisive shifts that give this hybrid SUV a surprising level of driving engagement.

Hybrid Fuel Savings

At 15,000 miles per year, a front-wheel drive 2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid will burn through about 14 fewer gallons per month than its gas-only counterpart. Even at $3 per gallon, that’s about $40 per month. Looking at a full 5-year buy/drive/sell ownership cycle, those savings would more than makeup for the hybrid’s relatively nominal price premium over a similarly equipped, non-hybrid Sorento. The hybrid also requires about one fewer stop at the gas station every month.

2024 KIA Sorento Engine

The Sorento has a wide selection of engine options and is available with front- or all-wheel drive. A 191-hp 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine is standard and a 281-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder is available too. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the hybrid model uses a six-speed automatic.

We drove a top-of-the-line SX trim with the turbo-four and appreciated its noticeable thrust, but we wish the powertrain felt more responsive off the line. The same model delivered poised handling, a nicely isolated ride, and firm brake-pedal feedback. The eco-friendly Sorento hybrid features a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor that work together to generate 227 horsepower.

The all-wheel-drive Sorento plug-in hybrid features the same engine and transmission as the lesser hybrid, but in this application, the powertrain makes a combined 261 horsepower courtesy of a more powerful electric motor.

The 2024 KIA Sorento is available with two 4-cylinder engines, the more popular of which is turbocharged. With both engines, front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. The Sorento is also available with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, reviewed separately.

We tested the 2024 KIA Sorento with the optional turbocharged engine and came away impressed. It’s downright quick for a small SUV. And it wasn’t just the sprint to 60 mph in a mere 6.7 seconds that impressed us but also the way the power continues to build at higher speeds. For comparison, this Sorento is nearly 3 seconds faster than the similarly sized Volkswagen Tiguan and a tick faster than even the V6-powered Honda Passport. Highway merging as well as passing is not a problem in the Sorento.

Slowing the 2024 KIA Sorento can be done with confidence thanks to the nicely balanced and intuitive brake pedal. Stopping from 60 mph, the Sorento showed only a little nosedive and braked in just 121 feet, which is better than average for the class. Handling is similarly confidence-inspiring, but we wish for a little more accuracy in the steering.

Towing and Payload Capacity

Although the 2024 KIA Sorento won’t move mountains, its marginal towing capacity could prove helpful in some situations. The maximum towing capacity for the Sorento is 3500 pounds when equipped with the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and the optional towing package. Avoid the towing package or opt for the base naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and that figure falls to 2000 pounds. Though the Sorento can’t match the V-6-powered Kia Telluride’s 5000-pound tow rating, it still can haul a couple of jet skis or small farm animals—depending on your lifestyle.

New details have surfaced on the web about the upcoming 2024 KIA Sorento (codenamed MQ4), along with a new rendering set. There will be a total of six machines available, but that will depend on the market, as our wizard reports. The petrol-fueled model will be powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter unit that does its job in the entry-level version, while 2.0 and 2.5-liter turbo engines will complement the more expensive models as well. There will also be 2.0 and 2.2-liter turbodiesel engines.

However, Kia has announced plans to electrify the next KIA 2024 KIA Sorento with hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines. It’s believed a solar roof in the same vein as that applied to the Sonata Hybrid will be available, so look for an SUV that offers an undisclosed number of free miles each year as well. Hyundai says six hours of daily charging will result in an additional 1,300 kilometers (808 miles) of mileage each year, in the case of the sedan.

2024 KIA Sorento MPG

The EPA estimates the all-wheel-drive 2024 KIA Sorento with the turbocharged engine, which is what we tested, returns 24 mpg combined. We got a 25.2 mpg average over our mixed-driving evaluation route. As an added bonus, the turbocharged Sorento doesn’t need premium gasoline. The Sorento is not as frugal as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, but it exceeded the mpg numbers we got for the similarly powerful Honda Passport and Subaru Ascent on our eval route.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA hasn’t released estimates for the 2024 Sorento, but we don’t anticipate major changes. Currently, the Sorento is rated at up to 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway when equipped with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The more powerful turbocharged 2.5-liter four nets EPA ratings of 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The hybrid Sorento HEV is the most fuel-efficient with estimates of 39 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.

The plug-in hybrid has a combined rating of 79 MPGe. Drive the 2024 KIA Sorento PHEV in its Hybrid mode and the plug-in model earns EPA-estimated fuel economy figures of 35 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. That said, the PHEV can travel up to a manufacturer-estimated 32 miles on electricity alone with a full charge of its battery.

On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, a Sorento EX Hybrid achieved 31 mpg—4 mpg short of its EPA estimate. The Kia 2024 KIA Sorento is a small three-row SUV available in five trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, and SX Prestige.

It’s pricier than the base Sorento, but it comes standard with the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that’s more powerful than the base nonhybrid offering. It also has nicer amenities than the trims below it, including leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, remote start, and snazzier styling such as 17-inch wheels and black exterior accents.
