All-New 2023 KIA Niro EV Exclusive Review

2023 KIA Niro EV with a bold new look, the Kia Niro 2023 is ready to add a cool feel to its eco-friendly image.

The base hybrid model comes with a 139-hp four-cylinder engine, while the more powerful plug-in-hybrid model adds an electric motor and increases power to 180 horses.

The cabin, which is lined with eco-friendly materials, matches the extroverted exterior styling and looks quite luxurious for what would be one of Kia’s entry-level models; it was positioned next to the box-shaped Soul at the small end of the line.

The new ‘Green Zone’ driving mode will come standard and use navigation data to automatically switch the Niro to EV mode when driving in nearby neighborhoods, near schools and hospitals, and in frequently visited places such as the driver’s office or home.

The Niro is all-new for 2023 with a style inspired by the HabaNiro concept from 2019. We expect to see the new Niro roll out to Kia showrooms in the summer of 2022.

Niro EV 2023 Review

The redesigned hatchback was marketed as a small crossover that could seat five people. Sold as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or battery electric vehicle, the Niro offers efficient powertrains to customers across the green spectrum.

2023 KIA Niro EV New

The related Hyundai Ioniq no longer comes as a BEV, and Toyota has hybrid and plug-in versions of the Prius and RAV4, but not a fully electric version.

The second-generation Niro seems to have improved on a lot of things that weighed on its predecessor’s TCC Rating of 5.7 out of 10. (Read more about how we rated the car.)

Specifically, it’s sturdier for the US crash test, bigger inside and out, it finished less like a budget car and more like a mainstream car, all three models were available nationwide, the EV had a range of 253 miles, and automatic emergency braking, as well as many other driver-assist features, eventually became standard.

Almost everything improved in the next iteration of the Kia Niro, which was first launched in the US for the 2017 model year.

Much has changed in automotive technology in the last six years, and the Niro embraces the latest and greatest, from increased range and greater efficiency. , to the latest technology, convenience, and safety features.

The most striking change comes with its bold new design.

2023 KIA Niro EV Hybrid

The Cityscape Green Niro plug-in-hybrid variant comes with an 11.1-kWh battery pack that’s said to offer around 33 miles of electric driving distance per charge.

Kia says that when the car is connected to a Level 2 charger, the battery can be recharged in under three hours.

2023 KIA Niro EV Specs

The big update to our Kia Niro 2023 specs is the trio of powertrain options available.

The HEV powertrain is the standard Kia Niro 2023, the plug-in hybrid model is the Kia Niro PHEV 2023, and the top model is the 2023 KIA Niro EV. All models will have an electric Green Zone Drive mode.

The Kia Niro 2023 is expected to bring back much of the same EV technology from the previous model. We believe that the new release will have an extended long-range battery and an intelligent regenerative braking system.

Our customers enjoy how this model provides space for cargo and passengers but is not too big to fit in a public parking lot. The dimensions of the Kia Niro 2023 stack up similarly to previous releases of this crossover:

  • Wheelbase: 107.1 inches
  • Length: 174 inches
  • Cargo Capacity (Seats Up): 22.8 cubic feet
  • Cargo Capacity (Seat): 49.1 cubic feet
  • Ground Clearance: 6.3 inches
  • Height: 60.8 inches
  • Width: 71.6 inches

2023 KIA Niro EV Interior

A more sculpted interior design creates a more contemporary feel in the new Niro. Kia has used recycled materials and natural fibers such as eucalyptus leaves for the headliner and upholstery.

Passenger space is expected to be roughly the same as the outgoing Niro, meaning it’s not the most spacious SUV on the market, but it should offer room for four adults and a cargo area large enough to run large groceries.

Ambient interior lighting provides an upscale touch, and a rotary shift knob replaces the lever-style gear selector found on the current model.

A large 10.3-inch infotainment screen is expected to be standard across the Niro lineup and should run the latest version of Kia’s UVO infotainment system.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless are both standards; a wireless smartphone charging pad and an eight-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system are optional.

2023 KIA Niro EV Engine: Test KIA Niro 2023

Like the 2022 model, the redesigned 2023 Niro hybrid will be powered by a 139-hp hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.

A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will be standard, and the Niro 2023 will only be offered with front-wheel drive. A plug-in-hybrid powertrain adds an electric motor to the mix for a combined 180 horsepower.

We haven’t had a chance to test out the new Niro yet, but when we do, we’ll update this story with driving impressions and test results.

2023 KIA Niro EV MPG

Official estimates from the EPA haven’t been revealed yet, but Kia says they expect the Niro hybrid to get a combined 53 mpg rating. That would beat the current generation, Niro, by 3 mpg in the same metric.

When we get a chance to test the Niro on our 75 mph highway fuel-economy test route, we’ll be updating this story with details. For more information on Niro’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

2023 KIA Niro EV At the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show, Kia unveiled the all-new Korean market 2023 KIA Niro EV for the first time. The Mobility Show is an event intended to help make sustainable mobility more widely accessible.

Kia claims that the new Niro is being built with sustainability as a priority and this vehicle will be a watchdog for future model developments.

Redesigned from the current model, the new 2023 KIA Niro EV  has been revamped using Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, as has the EV9. While EV9 used “Bold for Nature” as its inspiration, Niro used “Joy for Reasons.”

The choice of colors, use of sustainable materials, and finishes are all meant to strike a balance between environmental responsibility and foresight.

When compared to the current 2023 KIA Niro EV, 2023 is much bigger in every dimension. The car’s exterior resembles the 2019 Habanero concept with a two-tone body, swooping roofline, and a bold crossover look.

Consumers can choose between nine main body colors, six contrasting colors for the C pillar, and three each for the cladding and interior colors. It has also been refined with simple lines and a wider rear pillar that enhances the aerodynamics of the car.

The taillights are placed more vertically, shaped like a boomerang that blends into the roofline while the rear incorporates surface treatments and dynamic parts to give it a more modern look.

Also recently changed is the use of heart rate LED daytime running lights and Kia’s classic “tiger face” front bumper.

The vehicle’s larger size on the outside also extends on the inside, providing a bit more cargo space and additional space behind the rear seats when the battery compartment is moved underneath.

In the cabin, again like the EV9, Kia uses recycled materials in the headlining, seats, and paint to help demonstrate its commitment to reducing waste and helping protect the environment.

The seats are slimmer for added style and space and have lightweight mechanisms for increased comfort. The headrest also has a built-in hanger behind it for convenience.

As for the dashboard, it is not centered at an angle that slightly benefits the driver when working with diagonal lines on the other side of the dashboard. The 10.25-inch display and digital gauge cluster blend into the air vents using diagonal lines for a sleeker, sleeker look.

A 10-inch heads-up screen is available. The gearshift resembles an electronic dial and sits on a glossy surface with minimal gadgetry for a simple and modern look while the all-new suspension and steering provide a smoother ride.

Ambient lighting on the dashboard also serves to create a modern and welcoming interior.

Just like the EV6, this 2023 KIA Niro EV will be Kia’s electrified model in the future. Kia claims the Korean version will be available in a variety of powertrains including HEV, PHEV, and EV starting next year, although it’s unclear if the US version will get the same options at the same time.

There are many types of powertrain mentioned for the 2023 KIA Niro EV, including a 12V battery, a 1.6-liter engine mated to an electric motor, a 32-kilowatt electric motor, and a gasoline direct-injection engine paired to a six-speed dual-clutch. automatic gearbox.

We’ll probably have to wait to see how it all pairs up, but the 2023 KIA Niro EV is set to have 139 horsepower and 106 pound-feet of torque.

This vehicle has several other features worth noting. Greenzone Drive Mode, for example, transfers PHEV or HEV driving mode to EV drive mode automatically to help meet sustainable mobility solutions.

The 2023 KIA Niro EV will use the navigation or driving history to automatically switch to electric power when driving in green zones such as residential areas or near schools and hospitals.

It can also recognize places that drivers frequent, such as work and home, as green zones. These features are meant to integrate more eco-consciousness into everyday life.

2023 KIA Niro EV Review

After revealing the second-generation 2023 KIA Niro EV late last year, Kia is now providing more information about the second generation of this small hybrid crossover.

The Kia Niro 2023 will again be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric forms, with the conventional hybrid coming first.

The 2023 KIA Niro EV hybrid will return to a powertrain that combines a 1.6-liter inline-four petrol engine, an electric motor, and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Kia says the total output will be 139 horsepower, the same as before, and will only use front-wheel drive.

Details are not yet available on the plug-in-hybrid or electric versions, but they will sport a more powerful electric motor and a bigger battery pack. Kia has released a photo of the Niro EV showing a slightly different front-end design.

  • Kia has revealed more information about the new Niro 2023 hybrid.
  • It will again use a 139-hp powertrain with a 1.6-liter gas four-cylinder engine. Plug-in-hybrid and EV models will follow.
  • The Niro hybrid is likely to go on sale in the US later this year.

The Niro 2023 is larger than the older model, with a slightly longer wheelbase, increased width, and a 2.5-inch longer body that should provide more passenger and extra cargo space.

Its styling is largely taken from the HabaNiro concept car and will offer interesting trim customization possibilities: eight exterior colors are offered, with six color options for the contrasting C-pillar trim and three trim options for the body cladding.

Inside, the 2023 KIA Niro EV comes with a 10.3-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster like many of the other new Kia models. A rotary shift knob, previously only seen on the Niro EV, is now standard on the hybrid model as well.

We expect to see Kia provide more US-specific information in the coming months, as the 2023 KIA Niro EV will go on sale in Korea first with other markets to follow later this year.

2023 KIA Niro EV

The Kia Niro 2023 was given its first official reveal just a few months ago as an eco-friendly crossover, but limited information regarding technical specifications was provided.

Now, the South Korean manufacturer has released details on everything we can expect from this stylish compact car, including engine options, safety features, and cabin kit.

Kia insists that the next generation of the 2023 KIA Niro EV has been built from the ground up so that it can meet the complex and diverse needs of sustainability-conscious consumers.

Compared to the previous model, this crossover now has a larger body with better interior space and storage facilities. It has also been fused with premium and eco-friendly materials to create an overall minimalist feeling.

2023 KIA Niro EV Updates

If the Kia Niro isn’t on your radar, you’re not alone. Despite occupying the tiny hatchback/SUV space that everyone seems to be eyeing these days, it’s Kia’s best-selling model of 2021 — excluding the discontinued Cadenza and K900.

The problem is not choice — the 2023 KIA Niro EV is available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants. Instead, we think the Niro’s bland exterior and ho-hum interior design played a big part in the buying public’s apathy.

It seems that Kia was well aware of Niro’s image issues when it started designing the new one as the redesigned Niro 2023 is just as eye-catching as the current vanilla car. The new 2023 KIA Niro EV is a rework from scratch with a fresh look and modern interior.

The hatchback/SUV has a more squat posture than before, with the rear featuring black panels for a two-tone look and the front with a new grille and daytime running lights that look like electrocardiograms — Kia calls this a “heartbeat.” It does everything right. that old cars make mistakes, and we look forward to seeing them in metal.

This new generation 2023 KIA Niro EV electric crossover from Kia combines quality and performance like never before.

The next generation of Kia Niro is finally here and has everyone talking about it. Unveiled at the Seoul Mobility Show in 2021, the Kia Niro 2023 has a radically new design that is both impressive and impressive.

After all, Kia has to keep up with the market, seeing how hybrid electric cars are selling well these days.

Based on the HabaNiro 2019 concept that excited everyone, the 2023 KIA Niro EV promises to be impressive in all aspects, from economy to performance and features.

On top of that, there’s a lot of excitement going on inside the crossover as well, with a revamped interior that puts sustainability first, in keeping with the spirit of its hybrid and electric nature.

The new generation Kia 2023 KIA Niro EV features a pretty bold design. It’s an improvement over the previous model, which, for all its utility and sales records, was never very exciting. Niro’s new Avatar is now branded a tough-looking urban compact SUV.

In fact, despite having an all-electric e-GMP platform that underpins its EV sibling from Kia, the 2023 KIA Niro EV builds on the current 2023 KIA Niro EV platform. With the new generation Niro, Kia aims to take sustainability a step further, using completely recycled materials.

The design of the Kia Niro 2023 is great, simply put. Rooted in the HabaNiro 2019 concept, the new Niro features the face of a Tiger. Moreover, the design of the ‘heart beating’ daytime-running lights only adds to the aesthetics of the car.

On the back, the unique design is not only aesthetic but also functional. This not only enhances the Niro’s aerodynamic efficiency but also reduces drag. With the new model, the Kia 2023 KIA Niro EV is sure to grab the attention of many people on the road.

The new Kia Niro Hybrid has a classy and refined cabin design, with a very clean look. The dash lines allow a clear and beautiful view for the driver. Kia has used a lot of recycled and upcycled materials in the interior of the 2023 KIA Niro EV. The seat itself is a product of Bio PU with Tencel from eucalyptus leaves.

Even the 2023 KIA Niro EV ceiling is made of recycled fiber and wallpaper. Even the paint used on the door panels is completely BTX-free, resulting in an environmentally responsible look that is attested to by Niro. Not only that – even the window switches are made from recycled materials.

The Kia Niro 2023 comes in three variants, namely battery electric vehicle, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. The FWD EV variant runs on a single motor with a 64 kWh battery offering a range of 240 miles.

Based on the current 2023 KIA Niro EV  hybrid power figures, the new HEV should make a combined 139 HP with 195 lb-ft of torque.

The petrol engine in the PHEV variant is the same as the current generation unit. The all-electric range for the plug-in hybrid variant is a decent 26 miles, while the combined mileage tops out at 560 miles. With a range like this, the lower-than-average power figures are fairly easy to see.

The Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 is the next-generation vehicle and has all the driver assistance features to show for it. Automatic emergency braking, rear-traffic collision warning, lane-keep assist, and long-distance start are some of the features of the 2023 KIA Niro EV that will make your life easier.

Of course, forward collision avoidance assistance is at your service, and detects pedestrians, along with the blind spot monitor features one would expect from all Kia cars now, given how much more comfortable they make the driving experience.

One of the biggest talking points of the new 2023 KIA Niro EV Hybrid is that it will feature a Greenzone Drive Mode.

Working in conjunction with driver history data, and satellite navigation, the 2023 KIA Niro EV will automatically switch from PHEV mode to fully EV mode while driving in residential areas, schools, and hospitals.

Apart from that, Niro’s Greenzone Drive Mode also lists the driver’s home, office, and other favorite places in the navigation system as green zones as well.

Entering the Clean Air Zone will also activate Green Zone Drive Mode, switching the Niro’s PHEV or HEV to strict EV mode.

2023 KIA Niro EV Features

The main feature of the dashboard is the 10.25-inch panoramic screen that combines an infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. Below that is an integrated infotainment screen and a set of buttons for climate control.

The center console houses an electronic dial-type shift lever along with various large-capacity cupholder trays and a wireless smartphone charger.

Overall, the Kia Niro measures 174 inches long, 71.9 inches wide, and 60.8 inches high with a 107.1-inch wheelbase. Kia claims 15.9 cubic feet of luggage capacity for the hybrid-electric option, 0.6 cu. ft increased from the previous generation.

This was achieved in part thanks to the repositioning of the Niro’s 12-volt battery from the wheelhouse.

The 2023 KIA Niro EV can be owned as a hybrid-electric vehicle as well as a plug-in hybrid or full battery. All of these options drive power to the front wheels and take advantage of the brand’s Green Zone Drive Mode, which can initiate electric-only drive operation on the car to provide zero-emission mobility in certain environments and situations.

To ensure high safety standards, the 2023 KIA Niro EV uses a lightweight, high-strength body equipped with a multi-load front impact structure. The second-generation model also comes standard with DriveWise Intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

This includes front-end and blind-spot collision avoidance, high-beam and lane-keeping assists, mirror monitoring, front and rear parking distance warnings, and more.

As a modern crossover, the 2023 KIA Niro EV will also feature many connectivity and convenience features. For the driver, a 10-inch heads-up screen will project information onto the windshield.

This includes ADAS data as well as navigation commands. A sophisticated voice control system has also been developed with natural speech recognition technology that can be used to control key functions.

Kia’s Digital Key 2 Touch system will be implemented into the crossover and can be accessed via smartphones via the Kia Connect app. Using NFC technology, the driver can unlock and start the vehicle without the need for a fob.

The built-in front and rear cameras will also support the dashcam function for the convenience of the owner.

The Kia Niro is slated for a global market launch later this year with more information to be announced closer to the time. The brand clarifies that the features detailed here are subject to change and that certain kits may only be available for certain markets.

Details of local products, as well as prices, can be expected closer to the sale date.

2023 KIA Niro EV Report

After introducing the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 model at the end of 2021, Kia has now announced some additional information about the car. The second generation of the Kia Niro, which fills the small hybrid crossover segment, will again offer several models.

The Kia Niro 2023 will be produced in three models, namely hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV or electric car. Kia has scheduled the conventional hybrid model of the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 to be launched earlier than other models.

The Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 will again use a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor. The transmission system itself will use a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Kia claims that the engine carried by the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 can produce 139 HP, the same as that of the previous generation. However, the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 will only be offered with a choice of a front-wheel-drive system or Front Wheel Drive.

Detailed information about the other two models, namely Plug-in Hybrid or EV has not been announced. But both models are predicted to use a more powerful electric motor and a battery with a larger capacity.

Along with the announcement, Kia also released photos showing off a slightly different design on the front of the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023. The Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 has larger dimensions than the previous model, with a slightly longer wheelbase.

In addition, this second-generation car is also wider and longer, so that it can provide more cabin space and luggage space for its consumers.

The styling used in the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 is mostly taken from the HabaNiro concept car and is rumored to offer customization options for buyers.

Some of these choices are eight exterior colors with six contrasting color choices for the C pillar, as well as three trim options for the body cladding.

Inside, the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 comes with a 10.3-inch touchscreen head unit and a digital gauge cluster similar to most of Kia’s new models. The rotary shift knob feature that was previously only attached to the 2023 KIA Niro EV is now standard for the hybrid model as well.

There is no further information regarding the price of the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023, but the car is scheduled to be marketed in South Korea first, before entering the United States automotive market.

2023 KIA Niro EV Specs

2023 KIA Niro EV Hybrid Specs Revealed: Larger Cargo Capacity. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis have developed the habit of hosting their car debuts in two parts.

These South Korean brands first showed their shiny new products before releasing the technical specifications.

Take, for example, the second-generation Kia Niro which made its debut in November 2021, and is now back to reveal the relevant information we have been waiting for.

However, the following details only apply to the hybrid model (Kia Niro Hybrid 2023) as PHEV and EV models will be launched later this year. Without further ado, this new Kia Niro has gone through a growth spurt as it is bigger in every possible dimension.

It is 4,420 millimeters (174 inches) long, 1,825 mm (71.8 inches) wide and 1,545 mm (60.8 inches) high. This means that the electrified crossover is 65 mm (2.5 inches) longer, 20 mm (0.8 inches) wider, and 10 mm (0.4 inches) taller than its predecessor.

The axle clearance has been extended by 20 mm (0.8 inches), resulting in the current 2.70 mm (107 inches) wheelbase. With a coefficient of drag (Cd) of 0.29, this car has the same Cd as the model it replaces.

The increase in size makes the cabin more spacious and provides extra practicality. Cargo capacity increased from 15 liters (0.5 cubic feet) to 451 liters (15.9 cubic feet).

But the capacity of the model for the United States market will be different, as the 451 liters of the European variant are measured using the technique applied by Verband der Automobilindutrie (VDA).

There’s more room behind the back seat especially since the 12V battery is now positioned underneath, along with the high-voltage battery.

Whereas in the old Kia Niro, the 12V battery is installed inside the wheelhouse. The old Kia Niro was overhauled and now produces 139 horsepower by combining a 1.6-liter engine and an electric motor.

Its naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine is good at producing 104 hp and 144 Newton-meters (106 pound-feet) of torque and works in tandem with a 32-kilowatt electric motor.

Kia says the petrol direct injection (GDI) engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The gearbox has been “carefully engineered and optimized” for greater efficiency and lower weight.

Talking about maximizing efficiency, the new 2023 KIA Niro EV  comes with a Green Zone Drive Mode which automatically turns off the combustion engine when the navigation system detects a green zone.

The driver can also manually set the green zone to force the crossover to run on electric power only. A regenerative braking system is installed to feed energy (which would otherwise be wasted) back to the battery.

Apart from having a completely different design, the second generation model adopts a newly developed suspension and steering that promises a more comfortable ride.

For the same purpose, there is more sound-absorbing material than in the previous model, which will result in a quieter cabin.

In addition, on the interior Kia has installed a 10-inch heads-up screen to complement the 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. Sales of the Kia Niro Hybrid 2023 are scheduled to begin later this month in South Korea, with global markets following in 2022.

There are nine main colors to choose from, plus six contrasting colors for the C-pillars, three for the cladding, and three fresh colors for the interior.

Like its predecessor, the Niro 2023 will be available in hybrid, plug-in, and full EV forms. No mpg or range estimates have been announced with the new 2023 KIA Niro EV, but we assume there will be improvements in all areas.

For reference, the current Niro hybrid will deliver up to a combined 50 mpg (53 city/48 highway), and the EV has a maximum range of 239 miles on a single charge.

2023 KIA Niro EV Hybrid

The special hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric models adopt a bold new look.

The idea of the Kia Niro may be as compelling as the vehicle itself when the hybrid hatchback debuted in 2017. It’s a special hybrid that, like Toyota’s Prius, has no “regular car” counterpart that is filled only with gasoline.

The somewhat generic high hatchback style features a roomy cabin and platform that will also host plug-in hybrid (Niro PHEV) and full-electric (Niro EV) powertrain options. But the boring style means that most casual viewers will forget about the 2023 KIA Niro EV—if they realize it—because the thought of a grocery list or calls to compare streaming service rates becomes a higher priority in their heads.

Entering 2023, the second-generation Kia Niro should have a stickier mentality. Modeled after the 2019 “HabaNiro” concept —Got it? Like pepper but mixed with “Niro?”

So much fun!—The new Niro has a similar overall shape to its predecessor, but the details between the bumpers are accentuated by the block and edgier build.

Don’t just call the attractive-looking Niro “for hybrids.” It’s a really interesting little crossover, with new angular headlights, a wide hood, and chunky sculptures around the wheel holes and underbody.

There are clear parallels to the HabaNiro concept in the contrasting color panels that slice each side of the body behind each rear door, and Kia has also mined the car for the V-shaped LED headlight accents and vertical taillights that frame the rear hatch.

Kia has enlarged the 2023 KIA Niro EV slightly, with the global model increasing by 2.6 inches in length, 0.8 inches in width, 0.4 inches in height, and adding 0.8 inches to its wheelbase.

Now might be a good time to tell you that we know almost nothing about the Niro other than the above observations and some interesting tidbits of basic hybrids.

The latest version debuted over the Thanksgiving holiday at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show in Korea without details on the platform, powertrain, or efficiency.

Currently available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV variants, the Niro promises to return in three models. The current Niro hybrid uses a 1.6-liter I-4 paired with an electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to deliver up to 53 mpg in the city, 48 mpg on the highway, and 50 mpg combined.

It also starts at $25,865, making it very affordable. We know that the Niro hybrid 2023 will retain the same basic setup as before, with a 1.6-liter petrol engine, 32 kW electric motor, and a six-speed DCT; globally, the combination is said to be good for 139 hp, and Kia says it improves gas engine efficiency through reduced friction and increased combustion.

The plug-in hybrid 2023 KIA Niro EV borrows the basic hybrid running gear (making an identical 139 combined horsepower) and adds a larger 8.9-kWh lithium-ion battery capable of a driving range of up to 26 miles on electricity alone.

Finally, the all-electric Niro offers a 201-hp electric motor (as in the hybrid, it only drives the front wheels) powered by a 64-kWh battery; it gives an EPA estimated range of 239 miles per charge.

Given the apparent similarities between the Niro 2023’s body shape and the old car—and how Kia’s press material for the Niro describes a “fresh exterior”—it seems that the new model only carries the original chassis and powertrain.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, because, remember, these are special models designed for a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric duty, not gas-only models converted to accommodate those energy sources.

It’s possible that some of Kia’s latest hybrid know-how, such as that used on the K5 hybrid midsize sedan (formerly known as the Optima hybrid), goes into the new Niro.

Ditto some of the EV advancements found in the new Kia EV6 electric SUV, despite the expected price split between the 2023 KIA Niro EV and the pricier, EV6 EV alone might get in the way of, say, the latter’s larger battery.

2023 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid Gets Bigger Battery And Stronger Electric Motor

On the Swedish Kia website, some interesting information has been revealed about the upcoming Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) 2023.

As it turns out, it will get a bigger battery and a more powerful electric motor than the current 2022 model as well (along with a completely overhauled body that’s slightly bigger and more striking in appearance). This is more than a little surprising.

According to InsideEVs, Kia Sweden has revealed that the 2023 Niro PHEV will have an 11.1 kWh battery (up from 8.9 kWh) meaning it will be capable of covering 30+ miles of EV miles on a single charge (I’d guess 32 on the EPA cycle, for that matter).

Match his Sorento and Sportage relatives). The Niro PHEV 2023 also gets a 62 kW (80 hp) electric motor (up from 59 kW and 60 hp). In total, the Niro 2023 is said to have 183 hp compared to 139 hp on the current 2022 model. That seems to indicate an increase in gasoline motor output of around 24 hp as well.

Other sources also suggest the Niro 2023 will get a slight boost to its petrol engine efficiency. Autoblog.com estimates approx. a 4% increase, or about 2 mpg better, which translates to an average of around 48 mpg, which places it at or near the top of the list of the most fuel-efficient PHEVs on the market today.

All of this in addition to growing slightly in proportion compared to the current model (2.5 inches longer, 0.8 inches wider, and 0.4 inches taller) gives the driver a little more room for people and goods. Who doesn’t appreciate that?

This increase in battery size and EV range could mean greater incentives from the US state and federal governments as well (for those based on battery size in kWh or on the EV range), meaning the Niro 2023 will probably be cheaper, once the increased incentives are factored in.

This of course depends and assumes that Kia doesn’t raise prices much and dealers don’t mark up vehicles (which is pretty common these days). That’s certainly good news for those who might be considering the 2023 KIA Niro EV, Kia’s lowest-priced PHEV, EV, and HEV models.

This news may also be of interest to current or previous owners or fans of the Kia Soul EV (which is no longer sold in the US) as it means the 2023 KIA Niro EV will have more internal volume than the Soul EV or gas-only models (assuming they aren’t revised for 2023). Therefore,

All of these changes will set Kia up for competition with other electrified compact or subcompact SUVs, such as the Honda CRV or the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid or perhaps, a plug-in hybrid version of the same vehicle.

Considering that Toyota may start to run out of plug-in vehicle tax credits this year, while Kia isn’t, Kia could enjoy a distinct price advantage over some of its main rivals for a few years as well.

With all these updates, the only thing that might (still) be missing from the Kia Niro model lineup is the option for AWD.

2023 KIA Niro EV Range

Kia hasn’t officially announced the specifications of the All-new 2023 KIA Niro EV in the United States, but those specifications have been published on Kia’s Swedish website, including prices.

Like its predecessor, the new Kia Niro offers three electrified models: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric. Starting with the latter, it features an electric motor with 150 kW (201 horsepower) and 255 Nm (188 lb-ft) of torque.

The bike is powered by a 64.8 kWh battery providing a range of up to 463 kilometers (287 miles) according to preliminary figures pending homologation.

That counts on the WLTP combined cycle, meaning the EPA rating will be lower — the 2022 model is currently rated at 239 miles on the EPA cycle. Kia also says the 2023 KIA Niro EV (marketed as the e-Niro in Sweden) offers fast charging capabilities, with the battery taking 43 minutes to charge from 10 to 80% under optimal conditions.

Overall, the specs are similar to the upcoming 2022 Kia Niro EV, which has the same power and battery capacity. The peak torque figure may be wrong, as the current model offers 291 lb-ft compared to the 188 lb-ft figure quoted for the new model.

We’ve reached out to Kia Motors America for clarification but a representative says the company hasn’t been able to

For the price, buyers in Sweden will have to pay 495,900 Swedish kronor (equivalent to $53,000) for the base 2023 KIA Niro EV, but we can’t make any assumptions about the US price based on that as Sweden has different vehicle tax laws.

Compared to the 2022 model, the 2023 KIA Niro EV has grown in dimensions, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm (107 inches) said to create a more spacious interior.

According to Kia, rear-seat passengers have more legroom than before, while the luggage compartment has also been expanded to 475 liters (16.7 cu ft)—the size of a parcel rack—24 liters (0.8 cu ft) more than its predecessor. . Additionally, the 2023 Niro EV also has a 20 liter (0.7 ft) frunk under the hood.

Sweden’s Kia has also revealed key specifications of the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid 2023, which combines a 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine with a new, more powerful 62 kW (80 hp) electric motor for a system output of 183 horsepower.

The lithium-ion polymer battery has also grown to 11.1 kWh (from 8.9 kWh), enabling a purely electric driving range of up to 60 km (37 miles) on the WLTP cycle.

2023 KIA Niro EV Interior

Inside, 2023 KIA Niro EV  steals some stuff from his bigger brother, the EV6. The center console with a button-like gear selector, dual-screen layout for the top dashboard, and a touch-sensitive HVAC panel are very similar to the one we saw on the EV6.

That’s not a bad thing. The current 2023 KIA Niro EV is smaller than the EV6, and we expect the new Niro to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. With that in mind, there should be plenty of room for both eco-friendly vehicles in the Kia lineup.

The exiting Niro’s cabin generates few complaints, with its simple layout and lack of the tech quirks that pervade its main competitor, the Toyota Prius. Kia seems to keep the same basic thinking for the Niro 2023, albeit with some jazzy new tilts and curves and stuff to spice up the visuals.

Each door panel has a long diagonal arc that houses the window controls as well as other additional controls on the driver’s side, while the dashboard now forms a long, soft full-width arc.

A new two-spoke steering wheel protrudes from under a tablet-style panel with an embedded digital gauge cluster and a large center touchscreen.

Thankfully, the horizontal panel below the center screen houses a row of physical climate control knobs, though they also look like touch-sensitive buttons.

Physical seat heating and ventilation buttons are attached to the center console, along with a starter button and rotary dial for parking, driving, reverse, and neutral.

Kia says that in the 2023 KIA Niro EV hybrid, it moves the 12-volt battery in addition to the hybrid setup battery under the rear seat, opening up some space in the trunk (where the 12-volt lived before).

2023 KIA Niro EV Exterior

The crossover’s exterior showcases the latest generation of the brand’s Tiger Face design language which was first previewed by the 2019 HabiNiro concept.

The front features a pair of daytime running lights in a ‘heartbeat’ design to create a contemporary look while the skid plate and plastic cover illustrate the rugged nature.

At the rear, a pair of vertical LED taillights are mounted alongside the simple tailgate design. This contrasts with the heartbeat-shaped rear reflectors and the lower bumper with integrated slip plates to maintain a sleek yet capable look.

This crossover is available in nine color options with six contrasting colors for the C pillar, and three options for the cladding.

Bringing an abstract theme to the cabin of the Kia Niro is the off-center dashboard that curves around the front passenger.

It is decorated with opposing horizontal and diagonal stripes and ambient lighting featuring 74 different color combinations. The interior can be customized with a choice of Charcoal, Medium Grey, Petrol, or Light Warm Grey.

2023 KIA Niro EV Color

Not only the exterior design of the Kia Niro 2023 is impressive, but also the range of different exterior paints you can get – the exterior color options for the Niro 2023 includes 8 different options – Cityscape Green, Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl, Mineral Blue, Interstellar Grey, Orange Delight, Runway Red, and Steel Grey.

Even on the inside, Kia is pampering consumers with choice, offering four different interior trim color options for the 2023 variant, which include Charcoal, Medium Grey, Petrol, and Light Warm Grey.

Of course, with the interior décor of your choice, you can sit back and relax knowing that almost everything on the center console and inside of your Niro 2023 is working towards sustainability and a better tomorrow.

2023 KIA Niro EV Engine

The HEV features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 horsepower and 106 lb-ft of torque. In conjunction with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, the power output is increased to 139 hp.

This system transmits power to the wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. PHEV and BEV specifications will be revealed closer to their respective market launches.

Kia has also introduced a new suspension and steering system for the 2023 KIA Niro EV. It consists of a MacPherson strut-type front suspension at front with a rear four-link layout at the rear.

The front and rear geometries have also been revised for increased responsiveness, stability, and ride comfort along with optimized steering wheel ratios and new tilt-type support bearings that reduce friction and improve steering feel.

2023 KIA Niro EV Price

Although Kia hasn’t released pricing information for the 2023 KIA Niro EV, it’s not hard to predict that with the new design and lots of improved features, it will cost more than the upcoming 2022 model.

Current models range from $24,500 for the base trim and go up to $45,000 for the top Premium trim.

Undoubtedly, even if the price goes up a bit, the price-to-value ratio of the 2023 KIA Niro EV is undeniably amazing. Kia knows how to fill its car in every feature-packed segment while keeping the price as alluring as ever.

So the 2023 KIA Niro EV is probably more of the same where it’s acceptable (underneath) and more where it needs a boost (everywhere else). That’s fine, especially if Kia is priced in the $25,000 to $30,000 range for the hybrid and somewhere south of the newer and sexier EV6 for the 2023 KIA Niro EV.

Full US-specific information and details are expected next year, so stay tuned.

2023 KIA Niro EV Release Date

Not much concrete information has been given on the official release of the 2023 KIA Niro EV. Since the disclosure is for the Korean market version of the Niro, sales in South Korea are supposed to take place later this month, with other global markets to follow later this year.

Kia did not say what kind of price tag to expect from this new 2023 KIA Niro EV. Given that powertrains like HEV, PHEV, and EV are typically more expensive, even if we’re not sure they’ll be offered on the US version, it’s hard to find a range we can trust.

Almost certainly, this KIA Niro will be more expensive than the current model, which starts at an MSRP of $25,865 for the hybrid version.

Figuring out which vehicle will rival the latest 2023 KIA Niro EV is a bit tricky as we don’t have a price range for comparison, but it might be up against the Kia EV6, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4. Hybrid.

We expect more information to come out, as the specs for the PHEV and EV models will roll out later this year, so be sure to check back for updates.
